The Gozo Regional Council consists of all Gozitan Local Councils; Ir-Rabat (Citta Victoria), Il-Fontana, Għajnsielem, L-Għarb, L-Għasri, Ta’ Kerċem, Il-Munxar, In-Nadur, Il-Qala, San Lawrenz, Ta’ Sannat, Ix-Xagħra, Ix-Xewkija u iż-Żebbuġ.

Regional Councils are another form of Local Government and were established in 2011.

The regional level is relatively small in terms of the system of governance in Malta and Gozo. In fact, in January 2022, Malta was subdivided into six regions: Gozo, Northern, Southern, Eastern, Port, and Western. These Regional Councils were established by an amendment to the Local Government Act in 2019.

The operational functions of the Regional Councils were established by law to administer public functions established by the Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government, in the form of regulations, after consultation with the Local Government Association.

The region comprises the President, vice president, Executive Secretary, local government representatives, and, generally, the Mayor.
